Look up a domain (WHOIS)

In short

In your brand admin, open System → WHOIS Lookup, type a domain and press Lookup. You see whether it is available or registered, where it is registered, its dates, its nameservers and its main DNS records.

A WHOIS lookup tells you public facts about a domain. It helps when a customer asks about a domain, or before you help with a transfer.

Steps

  1. Sign in to your brand admin.
  2. In the menu, open System → WHOIS Lookup.
  3. Type the domain, like samsbakery.com, and press Lookup.

What you see

  • Available or Registered.
  • Registrar: the company where the domain is registered.
  • Registered, Expires (with how many days are left) and Last changed.
  • Nameservers and DNS records (A, AAAA, MX and NS).
  • Status flags, which you can open to read.

There is a limit on how many lookups can be made each hour. On plans that include domain sales, your website also has a WHOIS Lookup page for your visitors.

Common problems

It says invalid domain name

Check the spelling. A domain has only letters, numbers, hyphens and dots, and ends with something like .com.
