How domain transfers work

In short

A customer moves a domain to you from the client area with Domains → Transfer Domain: they type the domain and its transfer (EPP) code, choose nameservers, and pay the invoice. The screen tells them it typically takes 5-7 days. To move a domain away, they get a transfer code from the domain's page.

Moving a domain to you is only offered on plans that include domain sales.

Moving a domain to you

  1. In the client area, your customer opens Domains and presses Transfer Domain.
  2. Domain: they type the domain, like samsbakery.com.
  3. Auth Code: they type the EPP or authorization code from the company that holds the domain now.
  4. Nameservers: they choose which nameservers the domain uses after the move. To keep the website and email working as they are, choose Keep current nameservers.
  5. Review: they can add a renewal (+1, 2, 3 or 5 years), see the price, press Start Transfer and pay the invoice.

Before they start, the domain must not be locked at its current company, and the code must be right. The screen asks them to confirm both. While the domain moves, it shows under the Pending Transfer filter in Catalog → Domains.

If a transfer fails

The domain's page in your admin says Transfer failed and lists the usual causes: the code is wrong or expired, the domain was cancelled at the old company before the move finished, the contact details do not match, or the domain was registered or moved in the last 60 days. Once the cause is fixed, write to us.

Moving a domain away

Your customer opens the domain, turns off Transfer Lock, then under Move this domain away types their password and presses Show my transfer code. They give that code to their new company. If the page says to ask support for the code, the domain's code cannot be shown in the client area.
