You make the codes yourself. See Create a promo code.
What your customer does
- Your customer signs in to their client area and clicks Place Order in the menu. An Order Now button on your website takes them there too.
- They pick a plan, a domain, how often they pay (Billing Cycle) and any add-ons, and click Next after each step.
- On the Review step, in the Order Summary, they click Have a promo code? under Plan total.
- They type the code in the Promo code box. Capital letters do not matter: summer20 works the same as SUMMER20.
- They click Apply, or press Enter.
- If the code works, they see, for example, "SUMMER20 is applied: 20% off." A new line, Promo code SUMMER20, shows the amount taken off, and Total goes down. To take the code off, they click Remove code.
- They click Place Order and go to their invoice. It has its own line, Promo code SUMMER20, with the amount taken off.
What they get
- The discount is for the first invoice of the order. Renewals are at the normal price, and the order screen says so.
- A percentage code takes that share off the plan, its add-ons and a domain on the same order. Tax is worked out after the discount.
- A fixed-amount code works only on orders in your brand's currency.
- A code does not take money off renewals, or off a domain your customer registers or transfers on its own.
Good to know
- The Have a promo code? link shows only while your brand has a code a customer can use right now. Without one, the order screen looks as it always did.
- If your customer typed a code but did not click Apply, Place Order checks it first. If the code can't be used, they see why and no order is placed.
- If they go back and change the plan, the billing cycle, the add-ons or the domain, the code is checked again for the new order.
When a code is not accepted
Your customer sees why under the box. The messages are:
- We can't find this code. Check the spelling and try again. No code with that name at your brand.
- This code is no longer active. You switched it off.
- This code can't be used yet. Its start date has not come.
- This code has expired. Its Valid Until date has passed.
- This code has been used up. It reached its Max Uses.
- This code is not valid for this plan. It is for other plans.
- This code only works for orders in your currency: a fixed-amount code was used on an order in another currency.
- This code can't be used right now. Please contact us. The code is set up wrong: write to us.
- That was a lot of tries. Please wait a little, then try again. Your customer clicked Apply many times in a short time.
Common problems
My customer says the code only works for orders in another currency
A fixed-amount code works only on orders in your brand's currency. Make a percentage code instead, which works in every currency.
My customer can't see Have a promo code?
None of your codes can be used right now: check in Billing → Promo Codes that one is Active, not used up and not past its Valid Until date.
