Write your own legal pages

In short

In your brand admin open System → Legal pages, pick Refund Policy, Terms of Service, Privacy Policy or Acceptable Use Policy, change the text and click Save. Until you save a page, your website shows the standard text for it.

  • Updated October 2026

Your website has four legal pages: Refund Policy, Terms of Service, Privacy Policy and Acceptable Use Policy. They are at addresses like brighthosting.com/legal/terms. Each one starts with short standard text. It names your brand and website and shows your business details, but it sets no refund window, no number of days and no other promise. If you want rules like these, write them in your own page.

Steps

  1. Sign in to your brand admin. See Open your brand admin.
  2. In the menu, open System → Legal pages.
  3. Click the page you want to change. Under its name it says Standard text, or Your own text, saved with the date.
  4. Change the text in the box. The standard text is already there, so you edit it instead of starting from nothing. Open How to write it to see how to make headings, lists, bold words, links and tables.
  5. Click Preview to see how it will look, and Write to go back to the box.
  6. Click Save. Your business details show at the top of your page by themselves, so you don't need to type them.

What happens next

You see a message that your website now shows your page. The page shows the date you saved it as "Last updated".

To undo, click Go back to the standard text and confirm. Your saved text is deleted and the standard text shows again.

If you count visitors with Google Analytics, your website adds one sentence about it under your Privacy Policy. You do not need to write it.

The standard Terms of Service name the laws and courts of your state or region and country only when your business details include a legal business name, a state or region and a country. See Add your business details for invoices.

Common problems

The Save button is greyed out

The box is empty, the text is too long (the count under the box says so), or nothing has changed since you last saved.

My page still shows the old text

Check that the page says Your own text, saved in the list. If it says Standard text, your change was not saved; click Save again.
